This Puppy Chow recipe comes from Shelia, our family friend dessert queen. I’ve shared several of her recipes on the blog over the years, and so many of my favorite memories involve enjoying her sweet treats at the pool, family gatherings, or around her kitchen table. While Shelia is no longer with us, her recipes and the memories that come with them, live on.

My Favorite Kitchen Tools To Make This Recipe
From trusty pots and pans to handy gadgets, I’ve curated a list of products I use and love.
It’s crazy, I am just now getting around to share a recipe we make on repeat in our home and given the fact I have over 7 “muddy buddy” and puppy chow recipes on my blog. Now, this recipe is tried and true, we’ve tried versions made with butter, vanilla extract, milk chocolate, and other additions, but the ratios just never seemed quite right.
What makes this recipe our favorite is the perfect balance of chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. We especially love Puppy Chow with an extra-generous coating of powdered sugar, and this recipe delivers just that. The result is a sweet, crunchy treat that’s perfectly coated in every bite and always disappears fast.

puppy Chow vs Muddy Buddies
Shelia was from Iowa, so not surprised she called this recipe Puppy Chow, as that is what this treat is call specifically in the midwest.
It wasn’t until General Mills started making this a packaged treat that it was called Muddy Buddies. Whether you call it Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies, this classic chocolate peanut butter snack mix is always a crowd favorite.
