Easy and delicious, these Pretzel Hot Dogs combine a soft pretzel with a classic hot dog; always a favorite with kids in our home.
I love keeping game-day meals simple and fun; these Easy Pretzel Hot Dogs are one of my to-go-to’s – not only do my kids love them; I do too!

For years went through a phase when they were all under the age of 8 and hot dogs were the most requested menu item; it was a phase and it came back when they were all teens.
Years ago, my son Madden was obsessed with my neighbor Jamie’s Chili and Cheese Hot Dogs. I recently called her for the recipe and she literally couldn’t stop laughing; “Oh, Sandra how embarrassing but I use canned Hormel Chili and just normal all-beef hot dogs.” Simple and easy. I was like well I can manage that.

Then I remembered these hot dogs! I decided to surprise the kids and whip up a batch. It had been a while since we made these and they were so happy!
As my kids got holder hot dogs became a fancily dressed game-day meal.
Pair these pretzel dogs with homemade Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce. A delicious combination but another favorite here is cheese sauce; it works well too!

Perfect for making in big batches, these are great to bring along to the park, ball game, or a barbecue—and I guarantee they’ll be the first thing gone at any summer gathering!
Whether you’re looking to jazz up lunch or dinner, or wow the kids at a barbecue (with adults loving them too), these Easy Pretzel Hot Dogs are the way to go.

Easy Pretzel Hot Dogs

Ingredients
- 8 raw frozen dinner rolls defrost them according to package directions
- 8 hot dogs {all beef is our preference}
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons water
- coarse salt
- Ketchup and/or honey mustard sauce
Instructions
- Defrost rolls according to package directions.
- Roll each dinner roll into an 18 inch rope. Wind each one around a hot dog from top to bottom.

- Press the dough onto itself at top and bottom so it doesn’t unroll.

- Boil 3 quarts of water. Carefully pour soda into boiling water. Place 2 wrapped pretzel dogs into the water for about 30 seconds. Remove with slotted spoon to a cooling rack. Repeat until all pretzel dogs are boiled. Place boiled pretzel dogs on a sprayed baking sheet.
- Combine egg and water and mix well. Brush pretzel dogs with egg wash and sprinkle with salt. Bake at 450°F 6-8 minutes or until dark golden brown. Serve with ketchup and mustard.

Thank you so much for the helpful and informative article. I’d be honoured to have you write my site’s.
If I double the recipe do I need to add more baking soda or will the original amount be sufficient?
If you’re using the same amount of water it shouldn’t be a problem! You may not have to, but if the water does get low be sure to add more baking soda to any water you add to the pot. The baking soda is what gives the pretzel dough the golden-brown crust, so it is important!
Is there a reason the dough has to be frozen first? Can I just use a can of pillsbury rolls? I bought frozen dinner rolls like in the instructions but now see that they were already cooked so they won’t work.
We usually use uncooked frozen yeast dinner rolls that require rising time. The flavor is a bit different than pillsbury rolls but you can give it a try if it’s what you have. For reference, these are the rolls we usually use for these pretzel dogs!
Yes, the kids love these but they are definitely a Mom and Dad favorite too! I’m actually not sure who loves them more.

Quickly became a favorite in our house. Was asked if these could become a weekly meal. Im not complaining, they are delicious!
Awe, thank you!
QUESTION!!! I’m wanting to make a large batch for a baby shower (among other things), and I’m wondering if I can do the boiling part ahead of time or the day before, and I’m wondering if this will stop the rising process, and then I might do the baking part the day or time of the party. Have you tested something like this out? Or do you find reheating will do just fine?
I have never tested anything like that, sorry!
I think reheating in an air fryer would work out great!
The boiling does not stop the rising. I saw on another site, when somebody asked about freezing pretzel dogs, the author said to bake them just until they are barely beginning to brown, then freeze them, then finish baking later. I don’t see why this wouldn’t work in this situation, just without the freezing part. Yes, I know this post is too late for the original questioner, but I felt it might be useful for others
I’ve made these several times now and my husband always enjoys them. I like making them and they taste so much better than a hot dog and a bun. I have a sweet hot mustard I got from Hickory farms that taste great on these!
The kfc menu offers a delicious variety of chicken, sides, and sandwiches. From their famous Original Recipe chicken to tasty sides like mashed potatoes and biscuits
After I boil them can I wait a few hours to bake?
I haven’t done a few hours, so I can’t speak to how they would be. Let me know if you try it.
